HealthWorks SCVL on the BHS list of validated devices
The SCVL, a novel technology developed by HealthWorks Global is now listed on the BHS (British Hypertension Society) website as the only device that measures ABI and cardiac output validated for clinical use. The HealthWorks SCVL (Screening CardioVascular Lab) is a USB-driven blood pressure monitoring system that measures or calculates not only blood pressure, but also Ankle Brachial Index (ABI), Pulse Pressure (PP), Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP), Cardiac Output (amount of blood pumped by the heart per minute) and Stroke Volume (amount of blood pumped by the heart per contraction). The SCVL technology makes it possible to take a precise, reliable and quick measurement of all these parameters in less than 3 minutes. This new device also integrates in the various measurements a full patient risk analysis based on the Framingham Risk Scores.

Software developed by the HealthWorks Activa team for a clinical study on Ankle-Brachial Index for one of the world's largest pharmaceutical firms is finally ready. The software, in the form of an electronic questionnaire, also uses the SCVL CardioVascular Lab developed by HealthWorks to automatically measure ABI, cardiac output and Stroke Volume. This long term study on peripheral arterial disease will last for over a year and will aim to quantify the influence on mortality of PAD under all its different forms.

Professor Olaf Diegel, head of HealthWorks R&D, has won the 2008 Bayer Innovation Award for the Activa Xrystal, the latest Activa blood pressure monitor. The Activa Xrystal, manufactured by Health & Life in Taiwan, with HealthWorks Body Management Software, was recognised as having clear benefits and enormous potential. It uses LCD technology to minimise parts and software that tracks blood-sugar levels and body-weight so people can take preventative measures before it is too late. Chances are that the Xrystal will become even smarter in the near future as it expands into more preventative medicine areas such as asthma and forecasting conditions that could lead to cardiovascular disease.
